Land Yacht Competition

Kia ora team,
After watching Room 6 do their awesome boat competition it was decided that Room 5 would also get in on the action and run a similar competition for the land. Please read on for rules and guidelines. Your craft may look something like this...

The competition:
* To be held on the netball court in week 4 of Term 2. (Or on a very windy day!)
* Entrants may push their craft away from the starting line and see how far it rolls.
* The craft which covers the greatest distance will be deemed the winner and will receive a prize.
* There will also be a prize for the most stylish craft and the most unusual (To be decided by vote)!

Construction guidelines:
* You may use any material you like to make your craft and there is no limit on size.
* Please write the name of your craft on the side of the body.
* Batteries and electrical motors / gasoline engines are not permitted to be used to power the craft, however any other kind of power is acceptable (such as wind and rubber band).
* All entrants will be recognised as having completed an academic challenge for their Te Waihora Challenge. Good luck!

On a Crusade!

Today we got dressed up in red and black to support the Crusaders and join the More FM competition to win free rugby tickets. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

My Friend Bruce

My friend Bruce is a mechanical creature.
He has a big spanner and a vintage steam car that we drive down the road.
He wears light blue overalls which are sometimes covered in oil, and when he's not wearing those he wears dark blue shorts and a black and white checkered top.
Bruce is always talking to my dad about his Austin Heally sports car. He gives me a chocolate fish as a present sometimes.
He's a great person to know because when I'm looking for bits and bobs he can always help me.

My Grandad

My Grandad is a glorious creature.
He has a collection of pocket knives and a glass eye that he plays tricks with.
He wears shorts and a t-shirt and sometimes wears a watch.
My Grandad has a reason for everything when you ask a question.
Whenever I can't find him he's usually on the computer looking at motorbikes or pocket knives.
Another interesting thing about him is that he likes to sleep a lot.
What an exciting Grandad!

By Caelan

My Dad

My Dad is a sporty creature. He has a Hilux and an iPhone 5 that has three pages of apps. He always wears a black jersey but sometimes he wears a T shirt and shorts when it is very hot. My Dad often says, ''boys'' when he needs us.
Whenever I can't find Dad he's usually talking to our neighbours or working on our farm gate for the bunnies.
Another interesting thing about him is that he likes to make movies on iMovie or do wrestling with us like a dominating monster.
What an interesting Dad!

By Nathan

My Dad

My dad is a sporty creature. He has blue eyes that shimmer in the sun and some blackish brown hair that is going bald at the top. He always wears a business suit, but he sometimes wears a singlet and shorts in the weekends.
My dad often asks, "how was your day?" when we get home.
Whenever I can't find him he's usually on his phone checking sales of mushrooms.
Another interesting thing about my dad is that he coaches rugby for the under 11s.
He's a great Dad!

My Dad

My dad is a mechanical creature. He has green eyes and dark brown hair which is bald in the middle. He wears a battered old long sleeve shirt and moleskin pants. When my mum sees them she says, "That needs a wash Ian!" He drives a Ford Territory car and likes to fix things.

He used to work for CAT and fix dump trucks the size of buildings. Right now he is building a 6 1/2 meter boiler, and that's where I usually find him.

Another thing about my dad is that he never gets time to build his Lotus car which he has in bits in his shed. He is a great dad!

My Cousin

My cousin is a hard working creature. She has a black soft dog and blonde hair that shines when the sun catches it.

She always wears shorts and a sparkling tank top but sometimes wears jeans and a polo fleece when it is frosty.

My cousin often says, "Hey Frankie!" when she comes over to see me. Whenever I can't find her she's usually practising netball or cooking tea at home.

Another interesting thing about her is that she goes to Rangi Ruru high school in town.
When Hannah comes over we stay up late and watch the movies or make friendship bracelets.

What an interesting girl!

My Teacher

My teacher is a busy creature. He has blue eyes that sparkle in the sun and has a head that is bald in the middle because he's getting older.

He always wears long brown shorts with a striped shirt but sometimes when it's cold, he wears long sleeves with long black pants.

My teacher often says, "haere ki te whāriki" when he wants us on the mat.

Whenever I can't find him, he's usually in the office working on his computer, in the class room or out on the field doing sports.

Another interesting thing about him is that he loves to eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
What an interesting teacher!

My Teacher

My teacher is a sporty creature. He has a poddle called Gino and two children. He always wears brown shorts and a chekered shirt but, sometimes wears long black fancy pants.

My teacher often says, "paki paki" when we do good work. Whenever I can't find my stuff he is usually calm and says, "it will turn up soon".

Another interesting thing about him is that he's bald in the middle of his head because he is getting old!

He drives a green Mazda sports car that has a red roof that folds down. He wizzes round Springston like a wild dog.

What a unique teacher!

My Teacher

My Teacher is a star-reaching creature. He has skinny square glasses and a quirky habit for making nicknames for all my class mates.

He repeats, "turi turi" and "Haere ke te whariki" when we are being boisterous stamping baby elephants.

He takes a dark gaze at us and says "warning for a yellow sheet!" when we are dilly-dallying around.

He wears checkered shirts, sandals and browny beige shorts and he drives a pocket-sized green Mazda sports car.

He likes to strum the guitar, chirp songs in Māori, play fun sports and of course, teach Room 5 a lot of interesting things.

Our class thinks he is a thrilling torpedo teacher!

By Lucy

My teacher

My teacher is a sporty creature. He has coal black glasses and a lot of cool checkered shirts. Mr T has a black poodle and he has bold grey eyes that glow when the sun comes out. He has a half bald head and he likes to say "paki paki" or "tino pai" when we are working hard. When we are too loud he will say "wheti wheti" to quieten us down.

He wears beige shorts in the summer and long fancy pants in the winter. A lot of the time he will wear black socks with sandals. We don't see him wearing his shoes that much! He wears a heavy bright orange jacket when it is pouring with rain.

Mr T drives a green Mazda sports car and he likes to enjoy the outdoors and loves to play the guitar.

Mr T is a wonderful teacher, he teaches me a lot of new things and is great at his Māori.

My teacher is a play-hard creature. He has grey eyes that get larger when he sings and plays the guitar.

He always wears shorts and a shirt, but whenever it is frosty and chilly he wears long sleeved clothes.

My teacher always says ''Turi turi'',''Whāriki'' and ''Whakaronga mai'' when he wants you to listen up or come and sit down on the magic mat!

Another interesting thing about him is that he loves maths and art, but the most important thing is he loves to cycle on his racing bike.

He drives a little sporty car which zips around everywhere like a buzzy bee. What an interesting teacher!
